I am not your tool has emerged from the artistic examination of the state of stagnation, the unconscious waiting for the cut. A silicone face is supported by a framework of plywood in which electronics, cables, motors, loudspeakers and mechanics are mounted. In a monotonous movement one can observe the head as it breathes in and out and listen to its rhythm. Animation of jaw and eyebrow movements as well as the breathing sounds run in a loop that is repeated every 1:32 minutes.
The head is modelled on my own head shape, and the face is a cast of my own. As an image of a part of my body that contrasts visually and functionally with it, I am not you tool is a preoccupation with the question of how we view our own body: As a tool, a machine, an ally, an enemy? As an obstacle or a home?
