es gibt kein abschalten (there is no off switch) is a film about the ghostly nature of modern technologies. Based on a dream, it revolves around themes such as surveillance, paranoia and the statistical eye. The device can be turned off, but the network never sleeps.
Avital Ronell's statement "there is no off switch to technology," which she made in her 1989 book The Telephone Book, is as relevant today as it was then, if not more so. When you're online, there is always a data flow even when that flow is unmarked.
